Future of Manufacturing Technology Day Spotlights Smart Production and Digital Integration

October 17, 2025 — The Australian Technology and Information Industry Association (ATIIA) successfully hosted the Future of Manufacturing Technology Day, a sector-focused event aimed at accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies in Australia’s manufacturing landscape.

Held as a hybrid event with both in-person sessions and livestream access, the program convened over 100 attendees, including manufacturing executives, technology providers, researchers, and policy stakeholders. The goal: to explore how innovations such as artificial intelligence, edge computing, and sustainable digital infrastructure are transforming production systems and enabling next-generation manufacturing capabilities.

The event opened with a keynote address titled “AI as the New Engine of Industrial Value”, highlighting how predictive analytics and intelligent automation are being integrated into production lines across sectors like food processing, precision engineering, and clean energy components. Case studies from participating companies illustrated measurable gains in cost reduction, defect detection, and time-to-market improvement.

A featured panel discussion on “Low-Carbon Digital Factories” brought together experts in green energy, industrial IoT, and cloud computing to explore how manufacturers can align operational efficiency with sustainability goals. The consensus: decarbonization and digitalization are no longer separate tracks, but deeply interlinked strategies in future-ready industrial ecosystems.

Additional sessions included:

Demonstrations of AI-powered visual inspection systems used in high-volume assembly;

Workshops on retrofitting legacy factories with real-time data sensors;

Dialogue on workforce transformation, focusing on upskilling technicians and plant operators in smart system management.

“Manufacturing in Australia is entering a defining decade,” said ATIIA’s Industry Engagement Lead, Marcus Lee. “This event is part of our commitment to bridge the gap between high-level innovation and on-the-ground adoption, especially for small and medium-sized manufacturers navigating digital transformation.”

ATIIA plans to expand this initiative into a national Industry+Tech series, with upcoming events in regional hubs focusing on sectors such as mining, agriculture, and advanced construction.
